Rose M. Ketchum, 87, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully
Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 25, at Extended Care Hospital in West-
minster.
Mrs. Ketchum had been at Extended Care since May, 2011 when
she became a patient as the effects of Alzheimer’s were increasing
their grip.
She was married to James P. Ketchum of Westminster. In June they
had marked their 66th anniversary. She is survived by a daughter,
Karyl, of Belmont Shore, and a son, David, of Vista, grandchildren,
Brittany, Hailee, Renee, Olivia, James, Scott, David, Dustin, and two great-grandchildren, Bailey and Shelby.
Final arrangements are made at Westminster Memorial Park Mortuary. A later observance will be at Dearborn Memorial Cemetery in Poway, California.
Mrs. Ketchum was born in Columbus, Ohio, and was a graduate of
Michigan State University. She pursued her career in medical technology for 10 years, until the children arrived. Later, she was the head cashier for a large Sears department store in northern San Diego.
Rose’s peaceful personality matched her quiet interest in nature, particularly bird watching.
For three decades, Rose and her husband were avid square dancers, attending National Conventions in Denver, Des Moines and Detroit. They took their children to nearly all the United States and to Canada.
Rose, with her husband flew first-class both to Hawaii and to Great Britain twice.
